Hey folks! So, 2023 was a total rollercoaster for us at Early Bird! We had lots to keep us bustling this past year – cooking up new stuff, teaming up with awesome groups, and throwing both virtual and in-person events. Here’s everything about us this past year!
Fresh Learning Materials
We got a bunch of new pocket guides this year, and people from all over are asking for more. So, we thought, why not share the love? Now, you can grab and download these pocket guides for different regions right from our website's Resources page.
We dropped our cool bird flashcards game "What's that Bird?" in Kannada. The cards are getting into schools and groups in Karnataka, sparking kids' curiosity about birds. So far, we've given away 100+ flashcards to individuals and schools in the state, thanks to the support of Jungle Lodges & Resorts.
We created some interactive posters too! One's all about Migratory Birds, inspired by our awesome jigsaw puzzle game. It's packed with cool info about India's long-distance bird travelers. And then there's another one about the Birds of Nagaland. You can pick up some neat facts about the everyday birds in Nagaland and even listen to their calls. Head over to our website to check out these interactive posters!
We're also reaching out to under-served individuals and schools with our stuff—flashcards, posters, and pocket guides. This year alone, we've donated 1000+ materials to deserving recipients.
Interacting with Educators and Kids
We did a rerun of our Young Birders’ Workshop in May-June 2023. Just like the last two times, we did the whole thing online. Kids had weekly activities to do on their own. We're still hanging out online with the kids from the earlier workshops on Google Classrooms. We also added a few new things this year—jazzed up the activity sheet booklet and turned it into a cool nature journal for the workshop, and released a self-paced version of the workshop on Graphy to reach more people!
We've also continued taking kids on awesome bird walks in Bengaluru every single month. In the past year, we've hosted 8 walks, and they've been a blast! Picture this: monthly nature walks with cool activities to teach kids all about bird behaviour, habitats, migration, and even nature journaling. But that's not all! This year, we took our bird walks to new places like Agartala, Dehradun, Panjim, Mysore, and Tirupati, and it was a hit!
We kept in touch with our network of educators in our webinar series called 'Birding Buddies'. Every two months, we had online sessions where we discussed different aspects of nature education. We had awesome panels with three speakers from all over the country. We did this five times from April to December 2023. If you missed any, check out the sessions on our YouTube channel!
We've been putting up stories about nature educators from all over the country on our blog "Meet an Educator". The past year, we've featured 12 awesome educators and their amazing work. Swing by our website and check out the awesome stuff they're doing!
Team-Ups and Media Buzz
Guess what? We also got some awesome press coverage this year, in both Hindi and English.
We teamed up with magazines like Gaon Connection (in English & Hindi) and Kutuhalli (in Kannada), showcasing articles and activities about Indian birds.
We joined forces with a bunch of organizations, and we're looking forward to doing even more next year!
